Subject: What's Under the Tunnel??
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

I'm trying to mount a center console in my '90 Westy. It need to be securely tied down (learned that lesson when I rolled my '85 last November). Immediate temptation is to drill and put in screws, but I don't know exactly what is directly under the space between the front seats. I'm not in a situation where I can get the Westy up on a rack and look, weather such here in Seattle area that I don't look forward to crawling under, and Bently doesn't help. The area between the seats appears to be a raised tunnel, not the actuall bottom of the body. I know that there are cooling pipes and a bunch of other stuff in the general area, but don't know if there is a dead space between the floor in the cab and the actual bottom of the van. I hope that one of you with the more intimate knowledge of that area of the Vanagon can tell me either DON'T DRILL UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES or it's OK or something in between. If anyone has a better way of securing a center console between the seats I'd appreciate that info also.
