Thanks to all that responded with ideas about my off the scale oil pressure. I feel like a person that called the appliance service guy only to find the refrigerator unplugged. I poked around last nite and found that the thumb screw holding the signal wire to the sender had worked it's way loose. I think that high rpm vibes then shook it enough to break the connection pegging the gauge. When the engine slowed, the vibes settled and it reconnected.

I thought that I was smart enough to check the obvious first
