Subject: Re: SA Limited slip differential and getting stuck
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

I spent the weekend exploring new camping locations on a friends land, about 120 acres of forrest, creeks, and valleys. I was driving the little path through the trees and at the bottom of a hill the path curved and went back up a hill. I managed to make it through fine but when I had to come back the front tires sank in and slid sideways in the mud rendering the van useless. I imagine part of the problem was the Michelin Agilis tires, but mainly not having a Syncro :(

So the next best thing to a Syncro would be limited slip. But all the tranny shops say they don't make one for the Vanagon. So I am wondering if these limited slip differentials from South Africa would fit in an 091 4-speed transmission? Is the differential the same for the 091 and the 094? And if not could it be made to work?

I really doubt I will find a Syncro Campmobile that I can afford in the next decade, but I still want to be able to drive off road to go remote camping. Will this work?
