I second that comment on Continental. There may be some other belts that work well, but I've been happy with Continental. Yes, don't you love VWs primative belt adjustment designs. I usually try to get the belts as tight as possible when installing. This means I actually have to use a wrench to turn the pulley into the belt as I'm tightening the split pulley bolts. How many miles on your diesel, and were you thinking of changing the water pump at a certain mileage? With American cars I just wait until they make noise or start leaking. I'm not sure with VW diesels.
