My name is Suzanne and I'm a committed Vanagon owner.

After three weeks of catting around at SUV dealerships, I'm happy to report that I have decided to renew my vows to Geordi, my beloved '90 Carat Weekender with 198,000 miles on his original engine. This is in spite of the fact that his dashing good looks and the alluring hum of his engine attracted several buyers with cash (varying offers from $3,000 to $4,000--from only a 99-cent For Sale sign in his window, no less). The last offer came by cel phone as I was driving on I-15, van packed for my move to Nevada, with that incomparable view of the Mojave spread out before me through the windshield.

I just couldn't give him or the view up, so I guess I'm going for 300,000. This is despite having had (or continuing to have) pretty much all the beloved ailments mentioned NPR story (which I heard online here in Las Vegas). There is a confidence I've gained from being part of this list that has definitely made me less, well, hysterical, when Geordi acts up. I have learned to pay close attention to symptoms and to say to myself, "I don't hate Geordi, I just hate his behavior(s)."

Thanks for all your help, everybody, over the years. I'm thinking of treating "us" to a paint job, getting the A/C fixed, and of course, replacing the engine when the time comes. Your suggestions will be most appreciated as always.

Suzanne "Geordi" '90 Carat Las Vegas, NV
