Several respondants to my problem with outside mirrors on my 84 Westy hit the nail right on the head. I swapped mirrors to the opposite doors and they automatically became vertical - just like on my 85. It was something neither the shop nor I - nor any of my numerous friends who puzzled over this could see as a possible answer, even by staring at the mirrors for a great while and imagining what would happen if we exchanged mirrors from side to side. We did, actually, think of that as a solution, but those little buggers are confusing when mounted wrong. It looked as though a swap would not solve the problem. We were convinced!

Surprise! And now, with the mirrors vertical (rather than horizontal) not only can I see back along both sides of the van, but I can also open the vent windows all the way without hitting the mirror mounts.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
