Just out of town on Kalifonski Beach Road in Kenai, Alaska there was a huge automotive cemetary (junk yard) with every kind of vehicle imaginable laid to rest there. Covered acres and acres. There was a very long row of dead VW's of many kinds, and amongst them were untold Type II's, Splitties, several Safari vans (???), at least three of those Buses that had all the narrow windows in the edge of the roof all the way around, a couple of panels, etc. Alaska really is the end of the road for vehicles. It's incredible how many make it up the Alaska Highway never again to go South to warmer climes. The die right there when the first Alaska Winter sets in.

Anyway, I bought lots of parts there. One year I didn't make it by there in the spring after break-up (thats when the ice goes out and the snow melts) and it was way over around the first of August when I drove out. The place was totally gone. Not a vehicle left. Seems the Japanese had been in a bought up all the vehicles, had them crushed, and shipped them to Japan.

Sad Loss.
