I checked the archives on this one too. The discussion threads talk about whether to pay full money for one with the factory connector or to buy the universal unit and "splice" the old connector on.

I was pricing them at AutoZone before I joined the list. The guy behind the counter has never steered me wrong so far. He told me there is a certain amount of allowable resistance from the factory "connection" and adding a second break in the line such as a solderless connector or splice would add too much resistance and the unit would not function properly.

I respect this guys knowledge and like I said, he hasn't failed me yet. Is there some truth to what he says and could I over come this problem by soldering the connection and using shrink wrap for water proofing as opposed to using a solderless connector and shrink wrap?

As this part controls the computer which in turn controls the way my vehicle runs, I'd rather pay the extra $40 and have it work right.

Thanks,
