Subject: '87 vanagon auto trans problem
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

The auto trans. on our '87 vanagon GL pass. van has given out. It previously exhibited some signs of it's impending doom, but only briefly. What has happened is that it just stopped engaging in either fwd. or rev.:-(. When doing this before, it reverted to normal operation after a short cool down period. When this started about 10K miles ago, I changed fluid (which did not look burned or contaminated). I am not experiencing any leaks at this time. Also, when it was working, it seemed to work just fine, no slipping or hard shifting etc.. Do I start yanking this thing or are there some things to check or try before doing so? Any help or references to archives that I am not aware of would be greatly appreciated.
