Subject: Westy Propane Tank
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

I finally found a propane tank for my '87 Westy. Sorin Bejenaru had one in his parts that was missing the stone guard, fill valve and bleeder valve, so I am stripping and cleaning it in preparation for painting.

The local propane dealer had the missing valves, (I am going to have to find a 1 3/4" wrench for the new fill valve!) and I am working on getting a stone guard made, but I have a question about the service valve, the one with the handle you use to turn the tank on and off.

The one that is on there is probably OK, but the propane dealer recommended I replace it because it's twenty-two years old. Not a bad thought, but he wanted $43 for one that looks like the existing one. The local RV dealer has one that he says will work just fine for only $14. Overall it's smaller than the one currently on the tank, and looks just like the one on a 5-gallon propane bottle. It has pressure relief built in, like the bigger service valve on the tank.

Do any of you know if there is any reason why the smaller, cheaper valve wouldn't work OK?

Thanks!
