For those of you looking upgrade the radio in your Vanagon without cutting up the stock wiring, Best Kits & Harnesses (www.bestkits.com) makes a model that will plug into the stock connectors in your 86-91 Vanagon harness. You connect your new radio's wiring to this harness, and the new radio will plug right in to your stock wiring. The part number is BHA1784 and is available for under $20.

Here is a direct link to the Vanagon product. http://bestkits.com/app_guide_2001/bk_app_details.asp?model=VANAGON&Submit=View+the+Years+Applicable&ID=553

I just installed a new AM/FM/CD changer controller and used the harness and it made for a very clean installation.
