My Tiico conversion has an automatic. It turns about 4000 rpm at 70. It would be nice if it would cruise at about 3000 rpm at that speed. Does anyone know if the current SA automatic has overdrive? I can't imagine that the SA Vanagons are spinning such high rpms at cruising speed... It is just too noisy for me, I know it isn't hurting the engine.

Hi guys... I was wondering about the pros/cons of switching my vanagon from a 4 speed manual to an automatic. I have a Tiico conversion installed and running very well, but I'd just like to have an automatic. I not concerned with quickness, but I am concerned with highway cruising. Right now my 4 speed is truning approx 3800 rpms at 70 mph. Will the rpms be close to the same at this speed? Any advice is welcome.
