The reply that I did receive, was to make sure that the rear latching mechanism (on the door, not the van) was attached securely. His (Matthew Pollard - THANKS!) was loose, and tightening the screws fixed his problem.

This was not my problem, but it got me looking in the right area. I started fiddling with the latch, and noticed that the bottom part was only flipping up enough to catch 1/2 of the C shaped top latch.

A good dose of Finish-Line bike degreaser/lubricant followed with a healthy dose of White lithium grease, and my door is shutting easily now.

Another thing you might check, if greasing doesn't help, is that all the springs are attached and functioning. You might have to take the unit off the door entirely.... looks like it involves disconnecting the front of the door (which is what I was about to do until I thought of just grease)
