I had the same problem with a skylight from GoWesty - I didn't see any need for the spacers that were included. Called him and all was cleared up. DO NOT bend the hinges - they will be a bear to realign and will probably leak. My best advice - call skylightguy and get the spacers or call GoWesty - he has them.
