John,

Sounds fine to me - I mounted mine in the engine compartment on the passenger side - front. However, My van is air cooled, so with the sealed engine compartment, this was a very protected area for the relay.

Your rear seat area sounds like a good choice for water cooled van - although if the wires were long enough, you probably could have tucked somewhere in the engine compartment to avoid ant potential damage when stuffing traveling gear under there.

Note that this relay uses a different style fuse than the German red and white sausage style fuses (I just made that one up - I'm so pround) so get a spare to keep in the van.
