David I believe all vanagon ac's on vehicles made before 86 model year were added in this country and not the factory. On my 84 non westy the hoses go up the piller behind the drivers door and attatch to the ceiling unit on the left side. There is a cover over the hoses going up the side that must be removed. Then again on mine, there are screws on the metal tabs on the extreme sides of the unit that hold it up. You must first remove the plastic duct going foward to remove wires and the thermostat sensor tube. I had my son help me hold then lower the unit. The rest of the hoses are under the van.

Joe

I am assuming I will have to drop the housing to get access. The mounting bolts for the housing also seem to be inaccessible. > > Can anybody give some pointers on how to do this?
