I recently sold my 81 Westy that I'd been restoring since October of
2001. I hated to see it go because I always like to see these projects
through to the end and put a really nice Westy back on the road. The
buyer had VW experience and the van survived a 900 mile trip with just a
few minor fixes required. I'm seriously thinking about waiting till April
or May before I take on another Westy restoration. My wrecking yards have
liquidated my cheap source of parts and there just isn't any way a
restoration of a 20 year Van can be done profitably with all new parts or
NLA parts.
