Out here in LA there is a guy with a Porsche 6 in a later model gold Synchro Vanagon. He runs MSDS in Glendale which offers engine conversions, big brakes, winches, and bull bars fof Vanagons.

I kind of have had the idea he's running a water cooled Porsche 6 in the bus if there is such a thing. But maybe I just get that idea because it was a water-cooled bus originally. I'm not to knowledgeable on Porsche engines, so don't know if the water cooled models are compataable with Vanagon mounting. (didn't some Porsche on the 911 design have a watercooled engine?)

I've never met the guy but I've seen the Porsche powered Synchro. It's pretty neat and sounds and runs great from what I can tell. He's forever passing me in my 1.9 liter bus riding around town on hills and the like. He also has a nice crew cab I've seen around--but I think that's a stock motor.

His website is www.msdsinc.com
