Well, the prayers worked and I have at least stepped into the Hallowed Halls
of Vanhood; ready to begin my initiation.

The heads are off Hans and they are NOT PITTED!!!!!
Yippee!....Yahoo!

However, they have "AMC" cast into the side. Is this a common practice of VW
dealers?  PO was very emphatic that these were NEW VW heads and showed me
the paperwork from the trusted dealer....nearly $2K.  Is this Normal?

Everything but the gaskets look good; but I am going to drop them off at a
trusted machinist's to check them out.

One more question to the List...  Do our valves have guide seals?  I know
the older Beetles engines didn't.  How about the Waterboxers?

I will read up on this tomorrow (Bentley and Haynes). Just thought I might
cut to the chase and ask the List experts.
