Mine had a chip in it when I bought it and rust had set in in that spot. It looked less than perfect--and that's not acceptable. I bought a new piece from Pete at EuroAmerican RV (in Tenn. now I think, then in LA). The panel cost $99 I think. It had the correct markings "WESTFALIA" and the like on there as the original.

If you go this route be careful mounting the new panel so as not to chip it and start the whole thing over again. It seems it more of a coating than a paint job on the panel. Anyway, mine looks great with the new piece. (My battery/water level panel was in fine shape, but I'm sure they're available as well.
