Subject: Auto Trans Repair Question

Howdy Volks.

While hibernating in the garage this winter my '86 Westfalia Weekender suddenly decided to start relieving itself of the floor. Maybe I didn't take it out often enough and it just couldn't hold it, I don't know. Anyway, the transmission is now leaking from the 2nd gear brake band piston and the governor. I'm guessing it started more or less from the cold temperatures and inactivity. From studying the Bentley it seems that the governor seal should be easily replaced. My question is about the 2nd gear brake band piston cover. Is it possible to remove the cover, install the new seals and put it back on without any special tools or special gymnastic maneuvers? I figure I'll go ahead and replace the filter and pan gasket too while I'm at it. For the record the transmission had been operating just fine.

Thoughts?
