I was trying to put my starter back in and found the bottom bolt would not go in all the way. It'll go in half way from either side, but not all the way. I decided to use a tap to clean out the threads. I discovered the bolts to be- 3/8 by 16 SAE!!!!! Pulled the bottom bolt on my other GL and found the same thing.

What's up? I thought Vanagons were made in Metric Germany. Did they make some here?
