Sort of a rehash (I've probably said this to you before)...

Subaru's first production six, the problem-prone SOHC 2.7, is the ER27, fitted to some examples of the odd-looking angularAlcyone coupe (sold as Vortex or XT6 in some markets; most were fitted with turbo fours...XT4?) of the 80s; basically a stretched EA82 four, sharing all of that engine design's troubles.

The DOHC 3.3 is the EG33 six, fitted only to the SVX coupe of 93-97; basically a stretched EJ22 four, with all of THAT engine's good point (I don't believe it has any bad ones).

The new DOHC six is the Legacy Grand Wagon (sold as Outback in many markets; Liberty Outback in Australia only) EZ30, the first member of a new engine family, which will also be built as fours when the EJ family is phased out. Reliability yet to be proven!

For images of the EG33 go to Brian Steel's Smallcar site <www.smallcar.com/vx>. The subaruvanagon list is generally calling SVX-powered T3s "VXs". Brian has done at least 2 Syncro repowers with this engine, and the site has images of the engine in place.

I must take some images of my own engine, which currently resides in the back of my diesel Corolla wagon, due to lack of space elsewhere! Might shift it into the back of my Caravelle today... -- Andrew Grebneff 165 Evans St, Dunedin 9001, New Zealand <andrew.grebneff@stonebow.otago.ac.nz> Seashell, Macintosh, VW/Toyota van nut Friends don't let friends do Windows
