I saw a over 100 year old crock lid on e-bay for $1,000 and it had over twenty bids. I have sold some Vanagon parts that are expensive new and hard to obtain used in areas of the country. A lady in Montana bought captains chairs from me-easier to find them on e-bay if there is no local store . Maybe some items are worth paying extra for just for the convenience of shopping from home. Auctions get you if you are very competitive-your desire to win clouds your judgement of the value of the item-and the price goes up. And then a lot of people are just rich and can afford the higher price!

Someone is forever selling the Westfalia pop-top labels on e-bay starting them out at the BUS Depot price. I know how that must feel, Bus Depot. I sold something on e-bay and the high bidder offered it to the Vanagon list for more. The Enough already. How is this supposed to help the Vanagon community?

I have had my share of disappointments on e-bay. But that's auctions.

I think that's the whole point. Some "hot" items sell on eBay for way more than they're worth. Look for a GPS and you'll find last years models selling for more than MSRP. VW parts? forgetaboudit. It's kind of a shot at eBay that a bottle of mustard is going for $55 million. Who knows, it might even be performance art.
