I am having to pull my transaxle to replace a nasty leaky main seal on my '85GL. It's has an A/T. I was going to change the pan gasket, filter and fluid as it seems to be leaking there as well. What seals and gaskets should I replace on either the transmission or differential while I have it out? My local VW guy said "if it's not leaking, don't fix it". Especially the torque converter seal. I just don't want to have to pull it in another six months should something else decide to leak. Plus, it's such a mess under there that I can't make out for sure if it's just the rear seal and A/T pan gasket or possibly something else as well. I found some oil on the bottom of the differential pan, but am not sure whether that's from the rear seal or not. What do you veteran Vanagoneers recommend?
