When we turn off an engine that is at operating temp, the engine part is HOT HOT HOT and the coolant in the engine - near the heads- will try & boil & expand. If there is a release for the pressure (pressure raises the boiling point) then the coolant will boil and "pee" out at the weakest spot. While driving, the coolant is circulating and will (should) not boil, When you stop for the gas the coolant temp raises, expands, and finds the weakest link and "pees" forth. Good luck.
