when i did my clutch i had the tranny out and replaced every seal i could- rear one and the drive-shaft ones. It can all be done w/o special tools. It is really easy to do actually. Getting the final drive flanges off was easy. P-mail for details on how to do this. BTW, a get the seals from the dealer today. (you need 2x final drive and 2x dustcaps (that go sort of behind the CVs) and the rear one. I got all of my seals at an air-cooled vw place (Donsco in Belmont CA).
