I am having to pull my transaxle to replace a nasty leaky main seal on my '85GL. It's has an A/T. I was going to change the pan gasket, filter and fluid as it seems to be leaking there as well.

What seals and gaskets should I replace on either the transmission or differential while I have it out?

My local VW guy said "if it's not leaking, don't fix it". Especially the torque converter seal.

I just don't want to have to pull it in another six months should something else decide to leak. Plus, it's such a mess under there that I can't make out for sure if it's just the rear seal and A/T pan gasket or possibly something else as well. I found some oil on the bottom of the differential pan, but am not sure whether that's from the rear seal or not.

What do you veteran Vanagoneers recommend?

Thanks,

Walter Evens Hesperia, CA, USA 2-85GLs
