Subject: 86 Auto tran second gear HELP!!!! long
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

I'm chekong the archives now.. My second gear brake was leaking, so today I finally changed the O-rings. Now I didn't just change the 2 orings, I changed 4 and one was like hard plastic and either broken or cut... is that normal? I didn't see anything in the kit that was as rigid or cut but there was a soft seal with the correct diameter and shape so I used that.

I had a hard time getting the brake band piston in and to compres(enven usig using C-clamp).

I didn't find any O-rings that would fit the accumulator piston so no changes were made there.

When I replced the valvebody, I had my 9 y old hold it while I put the linkage togther.

I filled it up, topped off then got it ready to test drive...

NOW THE REST OF THE STORY...

I released the emergeny brake and started to back off the lift... it felt like they were still Engaged... jacked it up and verified that they were not engauged...

I backed it off the ramp and tried to go fwd and the same thing... back or fwd feels like the breaks are on...

after a little driving ~1.5 mile < 40mph it seems to be better but not shifting properly.

As I got it on the road, it takes throtle coaxing (as the RPMS get high, I let off the gass and it would to upshift.

Manulaly shifting from 1 to 2 did nothing 1-3 it would shift if I had enough RPM/Speed.

At ~ 50 I manually downshifted to 2nd and my tach went to the red line... seems I have no 2nd gear or if any it slipps like crazy.... It smells hot after 6-7 miles (I drove it home to send this) First and third seem to be fine

.... What have I done and can I fix this ?????????????????

I
