Yes, I got a letter from VW about the recall a couple of months before
it fell.  I looked at the tunnel and decided it looked just fine, not
worth bothering with taking it to the dealer.  Then suddenly the whole
thing came down at once while I was driving. Whacked me on the elbow.
Can't say they didn't warn me.
  At this point I prefer to leave it off.
