Paying someone to replace the water pump would be well worth the $ spent when trying to sell, if indeed this is the only problem. The market value will go up at least double if it turns out the drive-line is OK as well as the heads, etc.. Undriveable is a tough sell, even for a syncro. Who knows how long it was driven with little or no coolant-- I have teenagers, too. They are not allowed to drive the Westy.

Hello all!

After a long hiatus I am back. I traveled from my previous home in Miles City, MT to my current home in Fort Collins, Colorado during the summer and now have time to think about the vanagon again.

Here is my dilemma. After spending mucho time and mucho dollars getting my van back in shape, I had the brilliant idea to let my 17 year old son drive it to and from school/work. Needless to say, this did not go well. While the van is still alive, its health is in question.

So I don't know whether to try again and put the van back into shape (again) or let it go. I don't have as much free time as I did before so that creates some problems. The thing is, I don't want the van to end up being parted out or worse.

If anyone on the list would like to take on this project and would be willing to make a reasonable offer I would happily let the van go to a good home.

Its current condition is un-drive-able. The last time my son got into it to drive it (about 2 months ago) the seal on the water pump gave out and coolant dumped profusely from the engine. I know this is a cheap repair but I still have some time issues. If that were replaced the van would again be drive-able. It has some dents, etc. but no rust. I replaced the driveline and several other components. The exhaust is in good shape and I have a new airflow meter and O2 sensor (I was going to get it smogged). The interior is in pretty good shape and the radio works. It has A/C but I haven't used it for a couple of years so it probably doesn't work.

If no one wants it I will try to get the water pump back in order and get it drive-able again. I would like to see it go to some one who would use and appreciate it though.

Thanks
