The standard H4 lamp is 55W, so the lamps don't draw more power than your stock sealed beams. I can't say they are really any brighter, but when used in the E code housings they put out a different pattern which appears much brighter.

I have original E code H4s in my 1973 European panel van, and I upgraded the '74 Westy with the same. It made a world of difference.

Some western states allow the use of H3 or H4 bulbs for auxiliary lighting. Some people read a little farther into this and believe they can legally replace their DOT headlights with E code. Don't confuse the H4 bulb with the E code lamp housings.

I doubt you would ever get pulled over for using the E code lamps unless you are running the 85W bulbs.

My next project is to install the E code lamps in my '93 Weekender.
