I think you must live in an area where they're enforcing an emissions test. Here in State College, we're not required to pass a test.. At least not yet. Thank goodness.. I suspect I'd wind up doing some work to the '84. Diesels are exempt, I believe.

Hello, I've got a '85 Westy with the stock 1.9L wasserleaker that has ~195,000 miles on it. Moved from KS to PA - in PA they have emissions tests, which mine failed. Limit for CO was like 1.5 and I had a little under 4. O2 sensor was hovering around .5 volts. I installed a new one last year but it did not appear to do much. Also, the critter idles high at 1600-1700 RPM - no matter what you do with idle or mixture screws - it goes right back to same RPM and same CO2 reading. Will replace idle stabilizer this weekend.
