That's normal for any internal combustion engine. Water vapor is produced when fuel burns. Follow any car right after start up and you will see this. Once the engine and exhaust system heat up, the exhaust gasses become too hot for the water vapor to condense. That's why mufflers rust out quickly on vehicles that are only used for short trips; the muffler never gets hot enough to dry out the condensate. -Mike Moery Anchorage, AK --------------- ||E[__] [__]|[_]\ | =======| - || * * * *( o )-------( o )= 'Ol Bessie '82TD Westy

When I first fire up my van I see condensation coming from the tailpipe, both as steam and small droplets. The condensation does not smell like coolant. After about 5 minutes or so, the condensation goes away and the exhaust fumes are bone dry. What gives? I thought the obvious, that I may have a blown head gasket, but I don't seem to have any of the other indicators (i.e., sounds, engine running hot, coolant overflow, etc.) Brian 85 7-passenger GL --
