1/ Six-point sockets. 2/ 1/4 inch drive rachet. Last year I started using only six-point sockets and I have yet to find a good reason to reach for a 12-point. About the same time, I started to pull out a 1/4 drive ratchet whenever I had to do some wrenching. I came to this point of enlightenment when I noticed that my 1/4 inch drive extensions were about 5/16 inch in diameter and that a lot of the fasteners I encountered were 6 mm and 10 mm. So, I reasoned if its hardened steel extension is about the same diameter as the largest fastener I usually see, then the 1/4 drive is easily up to the task. The smaller size of the head of a 1/4 inch ratchet is a blessing at times. The only thing which will make this better is when I break down and buy one of the long length 1/4 inch drive ratchets from Proto or Snap-On. Rich |
