Subject: Passing NJ Inspections
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed

Have any Vanagon owners in NJ recently pass the "new" inspection? They gigged me on several things, but the two I seem to not be able to correct is the CO and the fuel cap pressure test. I replace the fuel cap and again it leaked through the key hole. This is getting expensive. I am now replacing the O2 sensor and hopefully that will take care of the CO problem. Perhaps some Cali drivers could share some light on this. My financial resources are limited and the very thought of giving up my Vanagon for one of those so-called "original minivans" makes me sick. I also wonder if the state enjoys the new taxes generated by a vehicle sale.

The inspections were recently conducted by the state, it was only a static idle test, now the vehicles are placed on dynamometers and put through the paces. The test is done by a subcontractor who will also gig the vehicle on thins such as a small crack in the headlamp lens. (it has been cracked since 1993, but only now they suddenly notice it. This is the one time I wish I had a diesel or a Syncro. They are both exempt from the dynamometer. All advice is welcome.
