I've always thought that such a knob would make a great cruise control (with auto brake/clutch releasing). Since the pump governs the engine speed, a simple knob attached somehow to the accelerator pedal would be very handy for long trips. I always used a Pringle's can to press the pedal to the floor with my old 1.6NA engine, but the turbo diesel has too much power for that to work well. Anyone ever heard of a mechanical cruise control for a diesel?

Entity Bradley Flubacher spoke thus:

> Proper idle setting is over 800 RPM.. 850 I think? Well, I don't know what the "proper" setting is. Probably whatever runs good. I know there is a RPM setting where vibration is at a minimum, this is important to me with extended idling. I think bigrig drivers like an idle up around 1200 when sleeping on it, maybe to keep the fluids flowing...AHEM anyway, I always wished the lever had a pull knob speed control similar to the Cold Start knob to set extended idling just right (at that sweet spot). Better yet, a solenoid controlled system (fly by wire). I wonder if the new diesel EuroVans have that feature?
