That's right, 86s should have the tach wiring in place. You can check easily by looking closely at the ignition coil. There will be a whitish plastic connector plugged in to it. It should have either 1 or 2 green wires. If it has 2, the second one is for the tach and this wire runs forward up into the dash. The other place to check is the 14 pin connector to the instrument cluster. If it has a green wire on pin 9 then you should be good to go.
