Unless you are looking at something rare and wonderful (i.e. Euro-spec Westy or deluxe sunroof,) $900 is too steep for a '72 with "not too much rust" My '72 Sportsmobile-topped Westfalia looked nice and was very solid when I bought it for $1250 in '94. It was a Southern Bus and I parked and covered it each winter. Still, while restoring it over the past few years, I have found numerous little rot spots that needed attention. The more complicated construction of these vans (three piece rockers, hollow dog legs, chassis crossmembers, etc.) means they are tougher to repair than Vanagons in a number of instances. Vanagon seam rust is its own annoying problem, but a Vanagon wears its rust on its sleeve, so to speak, while bay window rust can be much more insidious. If you can see "not too much" rust, then what's hiding is probably way too much, unless you live in England, where they will do miraculous reconstructive surgery on little more than half a door with a VIN and a registration plate. "I found a cracking good Samba, Nigel, it only needs a roof, floor, nearside, offside and nose!" I'm sort of jealous! I couldn't even find anyone to paint mine!
