Maybe the thermostat design is suspect on these 1.9s. I noticed right away after I sold my beloved '86 that this '85 1.9l had heat much sooner than the '86. I wrote in to the list that I thought the thermostat was stuck open, allowing coolant to travel front sooner. I had heat sooner, but the engine ran cooler. Everyone wrote back that it means the thermostat is working correctly, allowing the engine to heat sooner! I don't know... The 1.9s do seem to be over-designed in the cooling department. It was like they wanted to be on the safe side and installed this massive radiator and metal pipes running to the front. I would guess the metal pipes radiate much more heat than the plastic 2.1 pipes.
