I have used POR-15 and have to agree it is pretty amazing stuff. The warning label is entertainment in itself (Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball).

I painted gloss black POR-15 on the front skid plate of my old @%#&*! Isuzu Trooper 4x4, then took it up some very rough "roads" in the mountains. Spent a couple hours using the skid plate to compete against loose cobbles and attached bed rock with very steep approach angles.

When I got home, I was very disappointed to see my recently-painted skid plate covered in scratches and deep-looking gouges. I washed off the truck, wiped down the skid plate--and the "scratches" wiped right off! The marks I'd seen on the skid plate were where the rocks had been obliterated and smeared like crayons on the black POR-15 paint. The paint wasn't the slightest bit damaged. I am not making this up.

So, the Trooper's motor blew big end bearings, the transfer case started making bad noises, the rear diff started grinding, the driver's door fell off, the wheel bearings failed, the window seals started to leak, the dash lights crumped out, arm rests fell off... but, gosh, did that skid plate look good! And it stayed looking good until I sold that POS heap to an optimistic fellow at a huge loss (and was happy to do it).

When I have to rust-proof something on my westy, the ultra-toxic POR-15 is the stuff for me.

T.
