I used to use one of these props. My ex-father -in-law decided to close the lid for me and bent the hell out of the strut. Lid would barely close and there was oil running down the frame onto the carpet. PVC probably wouldn't do this, but why not fix it right? The struts aren't that expensive. Jay

It does, but you can easiliy install a smoke detector that will turn on a red light on the dashboard to let you know if it catches fire.............
