NOT so if you didn't crawl under your rear end and physically and visually inspect the boots. Squeeze them to see if cracked or leaking grease. Maybe the PO drove through a small area of water (flowing over a road, common in some places) that sprayed the CVs with water...eventually leaks into side of boot on shaft and goobs up your CVs in no time.

When a reputable shop replaced mine they did NOT put ties around the boot at the axle. I was surprised to see that, I then put ties on it to seal the boot from dirt/water
