Subject: Instrument cluster change
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

I've found a very good Vanagon '85 instrument cluster that I want to install in my 83.5. Some instruments and lights were not working properly so the change is needed. The tachometer and the digital clock are also going to be useful.

I have found in the archives that it is possible to install this new cluster but some rewiring needs to be done in the 14-point connector at the back, in order for all instruments to work. Also, a new (green) wire needs to be installed from the coil + terminal to the #9 pin in the connector.

However, I have not found all the relationships between the old and the new connectors. The closest thing I've found in the archives is a table with the old and new 14-multi point connectors between an air-cooled and an 85+.

I will take my time and review the Bentley, but it would be very useful if someone could share with me the details, and any problem that is likely to arise.

Thanks a lot.
