So with all the talk about grills, lights and relays - I wanted to show you who care the new grill and light set up on the front of my new-to-me 1987 Vanagon Syncro GL (red). Here is a before picture taken in October with the old grill and lights. My old blue Van is now gone to a new home, too. http://www.bellfamilytree.org/vw/The%20Kids.jpeg Then, here is what I have on there now. Unfortunately we just had a huge ice storm here in Minnesota - so lots of weird ice and salt and junk on the front. http://www.bellfamilytree.org/vw/Pict1.jpg This next one is of driving light only - the ambers light up, and so do amber bulbs in the top 1/8th of the Hellas! Super cool, and I almost fell over when I first saw it. I'm too pleased with the results. http://www.bellfamilytree.org/vw/Pict2.jpg Then - amber lights on only with the "lower than low-beam" lights and driving lights on. The "lower than low-beams" are these super small clear lights that are used as city driving lights in europe, as I understand it. Maybe 1/2 the power of a regular "low-beam". And yes, I guess there are four filaments inside the outer lights alone! http://www.bellfamilytree.org/vw/Pict4.jpg Low-beams only. http://www.bellfamilytree.org/vw/pict5.jpg All lights on! The weird wiring was done courtesy Ken @ Van-Again getting me the crazy 2 way switch and grill, and Brian @ Vintage Performance in Cokato, MN (he also does TIICO installs and whatever Vans need...) Brian did the labor and got me the crazy Hellas. Worth every penny spent - I've had the Van for about 4 months and in this configuration for about 4 days, and the difference is night and day! I can see! It looks cool, too. Hope you can see the pics, if not I can send them to you if you want. Just click on the link. AB |
