I have the original round headlights on my 85. For years I have been seeing people "upgrading" to the later model square lights. Now they are getting the SA double round lights. Is this primarily for cosmetic reasons? I have never experienced a lack of light (on the road) with the original round ones. I bought the van almost 10 years ago and I have never had to change them. They even made it through several accidents and these things are cheap and the reflective material doesn't become corroded due to age and water leakage (thus not periodically requiring expensive reflectors to put the delicate bulbs in). Finally, the van made its way into a concrete wall, and drove away with nobody hurt. One of the lights is dim now, but it still works. I just bought a rust free 86 Syncro from the desert and while everybody is talking about the new SA headlights, I'm thinking reverting back to the old round sealed beams. I figured that the advocates of the newer lighting might be able to explain the "error in my thinking". Thanks. Craig 85 Wolfsburg Westy Weekender (WWW) 86 Syncro (my new baby) |
