Hello, I'm a new Vanagon GL owner. It's an 88, with original 2.1 L , manual transmission, and 100k miles. The body's very good, but at the price I got it I knew there had to be problems. I got the whole repair history with the purchase, and the the only thing that stuck out was a head job 20k ago. It doesn't run really well, but starts right up. Sometimes idles at 2k, often drops very low after warm up, and drive performance suffers. Oil pressure light flashes all the time, temp gauge doesn't function. Spedometer's out ,too, but looking at the VIN and repair history 100k doesn't seem too far off. I'll have the Bently book in a couple days, but am not sure how to prioritize the work. Sensors and gauges first? tune-up by ear? I want to address the most serous weakness first. Any ideas would be welcome. I'm new to the list, via the Yahoo! spare group. I hope this isn't redundant for all of you. Thanks |
