When I had a new sectional roll-up garage door installed, I asked the installer to adjust the springs so it would open as far as possible. The rubber gasket on the bottom of the door hangs about 1/2" below the door opening when the door is fully open and the van fits in with an inch to spare.

Adjusting the automatic door opener works fine until the time the opener quits working (like a power failure) and you have to operate the door manually. Hopefully you remember to wedge the door open all the way before pulling out of or into the garage. My memory isn't that good and I can visualize myself being in a hurry, forgetting, pulling out of my garage and taking the door with me.

Check with a garage door company to see if they can adjust your door to open as far as possible. It hasn't affected the way my garage door operates either manually or with the opener.

Good luck,
