Subject: Antifreez smell!

Ok I got my 86 vanagon today it starts and runs great but after it is on a while I smell antifreez. I don't see it leaking any where bu the guy I bought it from says theres a good chance heads are bad. After the van heats up it still blows cool air out the dash. I think I didn't smell antifreez untill I turned the rear heater on. The previous owner says that ever now and then it would blow some white smoke out.
