Dave, I took mine out to install my Audi Turbo 15" wheels, no ill effects, 1 year on the road. If you are nervous about it, you could countersink the hole, and use a tapered screw, like the front disks... leaves a flat surface.

I have some questions. Does anyone know the consequences of removing the rear bolts that position the brake drums on a Vanagon? I have some 16 Inch MErcedes wheels that are on my 71 Crew cab (under construction) and thse brake drum bolts keep me from mounting them on my Vanagon. Also, my water temp guage on my 86 Vanagon works on occasion. This is VERY frustrating. Should I just replace the sensor or is there a simple way to test. I really don't want to bleed the system. WHAT A PAIN. Thanks,

Dave
